Boudoir Photography can be a very rewarding type of portraiture that you, as a photographer, can offer to your client: rewarding for you because you like to create beautiful art to make people happy.
Rewarding for her, because it offers her the chance to immortalize her beauty the way she sees it in her heart.
And whether the finished photo is to be shared amongst friends or solely to the pleasure of the client, these photos will be appreciated for years to come.
What is Boudoir?
Boudoir can be classified as a sub category of Glamour photography. Both genres features a female subject with an emphasis on sensual, sexy and flirtatious looks and poses.
The bedroom is the base atmosphere or location of boudoir. Lingerie (or less, depending on the subject’s comfort level) is the only dress code. However these are only suggestions as the glamour and boudoir genre is overlapping more and more and can include swimsuits, the pin-up girl look and much more.
The fears and motivations of boudoir:
Whether you are shooting a client, a friend, a girlfriend or models new to the profession, you should always treat them respectfully the way you do all clients that visit your studio. This kind of photography requires a high degree of sensitivity and understanding. Traditional portrait sessions can be intimidating at times for even the most confident subject. However, boudoir photography tends to take the unease to an all time high.
Your subject is very aware that she will be centre stage, trying looks and poses that might be out of character for her. Her goal is to look beautiful wearing intimate lingerie or less, yet she is likely to be nervous at the thought of being directed by a stranger (or even a familiar photographer) behind his camera.
However, there are a few things you can do to ease the model’s anxiety. Having a female assistant or one of her close girlfriends in the sidelines can help reassure her that nothing untoward will happen. Have a few props such as teddy bears, feather boas or silk scarves to help bring out her playful side. But respect her limits and stay within them. While some women will be comfortable and will bloom under the camera, some will be self-conscious. It is your job as the photographer to bring out the beauty that every woman has within her.
The reasons for purchasing boudoir photography:
Wedding gift: To present to the groom the night before, day of or even the day flowing the honeymoon. Many brides half-joked that giving the groom an album or a painting of sexy photos just prior to the big day would serve as “altar insurance” that he would show up for the wedding!
Anniversaries, Holidays, Valentine Day gift: One of the many ideas to spice up the coming years.
Just Because: Weight loss, job promotion, new boyfriend, post-pregnancy, divorce, etc… Only you can know the reasons why and we are here to make this a worthwhile reward.
Whatever your reasons, RA photography will meet with you to answer all the questions you may have. We will work with you on capturing the look you want to capture and will make it happen.
